Silver Beard of the Month

GCHB, Int’l CH Aristes Bronze Judo Star “Star”

DoB: July 24, 2012 • Owned and Loved by: Edward and Arlene Koetje

Star is named after the winner of the Bronze Judo Medal at the Olympics the year she was born. The bronze medalist was from Oak Harbor, WA where my husband was born. Star got her first 4-point major at 7 months. Her first time shown wearing a borrowed show collar. Star is unusual for a in that she retrieves on land and water.  She's a good watch dog.  She likes children and gets along with dogs and cats.  She is absolutely devoted to us. We have lots of rabbits in the neighborhood. Star used to chase them but not vigorously.  She has cornered some of them but just lets them go.  We think she herds them. Star is still able to go up and down the stairs. She’s a very good eater but not fat. She does have arthritis and gets acupuncture once a week.  Except for arthritis she is very healthy.

The BHF Silver Beards Program celebrates Bouviers who have reached the age of 12. If you would like to honor your young at heart Bouv on our Facebook page and website, please contact the Silver Beards Coordinator, Lara Harriger at bhfsilverbeards@gmail.com.

What is a “Silver Beard”?

A Silver Beard is a Bouvier who has reached their 12th birthday.

Longevity is an important part of our breed legacy and the Bouvier Health Foundation has been honoring our “senior citizens” for over 15 years. We honor any Bouvier registered with the AKC or the CKC that has reached it’s 12th birthday in the past 5 years.
