Our Mission

The Bouvier Health Foundation was established to help improve the health and longevity of the Bouvier des Flandres.

BHF is an entity that works under the auspices of the American Bouvier

des Flandres Club, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation. The BHF is tasked

with health education and facilitating the funding of research for the Bouvier des Flandres.

Through education, support, and research, the Bouvier Health Foundation provides Bouvier fanciers with important information that will improve the health & longevity of the Bouvier des Flandres.

Our Goals

  • Educate owners and breeders about acquired and heritable diseases, genetic abnormalities, injuries, and other health issues that impact Bouvier’s health and longevity.

  • Fund research aimed at reducing the incidence of inherited diseases that affect breeding and health issues specific to Bouviers.

  • Establish a national Bouvier database that will be a universal resource on health and genetic information and will help guide breeding practices.

  • Develop educational materials, create venues for discussion, and disseminate peer-reviewed scientific evidence as a platform to share expertise within the ABdFC and general public specific to the Bouvier, their general health, health testing, conscientious breeding practices, puppy selection, and lifespan development.
