Briarlea Cayuse Reina de la Luz “Caya” – Born: Dec. 30, 2008

Caya and I have been best friends for almost 9 years. We adopted her at age 5 ½ , two months after we had lost our first Bouvier and just after she had weaned her 3rd litter. Our first Bouvier was my husband's dog. But mama Caya decided I was hers and she needed to take care of me. Without being trained to do this, she could sense what could trigger my asthma in a new place and block me from entering. Once, while on a walk, I stumbled and fell down a slanted ditch bank. She came right back to me, positioned herself in just the right place with a strong broad stance and invited me to use her to help myself get up. Now, at 14, she has cataracts and is pretty much blind. We are growing old together, both stiff with arthritis and sleeping more. She is still my shadow and is cherished every day she is with us.
