Discounted Health Testing at the 2024 National Specialty

Health Testing

We are very excited to announce that the Bouvier Health Foundation will be offering its members the following health testing options this year at the National Specialty.

BHF will supplement 50% of the cost for echocardiograms, heart auscultations and eye exams for Bouviers.

Echocardiogram and Heart Auscultation

Wednesday 10/16/24 Location Utility Center 8 - 4 pm

Dr. Cecilia Marshall, Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Cardiology, will provide echocardiograms and heart auscultation for $125.00. She will provide Auscultations (without the Echo) for $25.

This is an incredibly discounted price and just for Bouviers. Other breeds are welcome but the cost will be $250.00.

She will also offer Auscultations only (without Echo). The costs to be determined. Both of these tests meet the requirements for the OFA Canine Health Information Center CHIC certification.

AKC DNA Profile

Wednesday 10/16/24 Location Utility Center all day, walk-ins welcome.

AKC DNA profile cheek swabs will be available for $40.

AKC DNA Profiling is required for stud dogs whose semen is collected for new or frozen use. AKC DNA Profiling is also necessary for frequently used sires, effective for litters whelped on or after July 1, 2000, and for imported breeding stock registered on or after March 1, 2006. The average cost is $50.00, but at our specialty, it is offered at $40.00. Breeders, please sign your dogs up for this test.

DNA Repository blood draws
Wednesday 10/16 Location Utility Center all day. Walk-ins welcome.

The CHIC DNA Repository, also co-sponsored by the OFA and CHF, collects and stores canine DNA samples along with corresponding genealogical and phenotypic information. This information is used for future research and testing with the goal of reducing the incidence of inherited diseases in dogs. The BHF will provide the opportunity to have your dog added to the DNA repository. Participants can help future generations of dogs live longer, healthier lives. This is free to all participants.
